Andrés Di Tella is the son of an Argentine father and an Indian mother. Within the family, which lived in London and Argentina, her nationality was a non-issue. Now that his mother is no longer alive and he has a son of his own, he is surprised that he used to not have the slightest interest in his mother's homeland – although the racism he experienced as a child explains a lot. Starting in Argentina and ending in India, Di Tella tries to get closer to this neglected part of his family history through meetings with friends and relatives of his mother and conversations with his father. What was it like for his mother to give up her family and everything she knew? And what does that unknown and unloved country actually mean to him after all these years?
