Forerunners plot
As a child, Martin looked up at airplanes and asked his father who traveled in them. Those were important people, his father explained. People who made decisions. Martin: "I knew I would one day be one of those people. My parents, grandparents and great-grandparents couldn't do it, but anything is possible now." Martin is part of the first generation black South African middle class. A group that grew up in poverty, but now has a flourishing career, drives beautiful cars and lives in villas. Their worries have not gone away, however; the hardworking Martin, Miranda, Mpumi and Karabo, who are followed in this film, often entertain relatives. They also encounter discrepancies between new rules and traditional values.
