Femimam plot
This documentary follows the organization Femimam, whose members believe that the traditional mosque needs an alternative in which men and women can go for spiritual support and perform religious ceremonies on an equal basis. Sherin Khankan and her colleagues are trying to build a congregation of female liberal Muslims. Although they are all academically trained, none of them know how to establish a mosque. It therefore becomes a process of trial and error and Sherin is impatient. She wants change and equality now. But her haste causes division within the organization. Since the mosque opened in Copenhagen in August 2016, Femimam has embarked on a reinterpretation of Muslim customs around divorce, baptism and marriage, including interfaith, to better suit Muslims born and/or living in Europe.
