Fedrelandet plot

"A magnificent, existential journey with the filmmaker’s parents as its human yardstick, and with the primordial forces of the earth looming in the bedrock."

Being connected to nature, what does that mean? The director's father knows this and he shows it to the viewer. He is 84 years old. We follow his footsteps to his house in the mountains. In the smallest life of nature and to large panoramas, where he grew up.

Yes, yes, beautiful images, especially on the big screen of the cinema. Norway is a paradise on earth, but after a while I saw it, and I find the philosophical nonsense of Jørgen, who has been walking through nature for decades, rather uninteresting. "Generations follow each other", yes tell me something I didn't know yet. Then God is also called in... but Jesus Christ, that nature is ridiculously beautiful there.

Too many documentaries lose themselves in an endless mush of explanatory voice-overs that want to add explanation and opinion to every image in order to ensure that every viewer feels the desired emotion. The film version of a tourist bus where the animator rattles off her commands at every building as if she were a drill sergeant. Those augen... Links, something like that.

But it can be different, and this film shows how much better and more beautiful it quickly becomes. Just watching a bumblebee on a flower for minutes, with the only sound being the buzzing. And that's how it should be, because with these kinds of images, a stillness fits, with at most a poem, a sentimental song sung by your mother, an anchor like your personal bond with a tree or a piece of stone.

I would like to make a film like this myself.
