The traditional form of religion, candomblé, consists of a mixture of Catholic and African mystical spiritual elements. This movement is losing ground to the so-called 'neocharismatic movement', a split from evangelical Christianity that does not consider capitalism a dirty word. The struggle for directions is increasing polarization in the country and fueling increasingly violent conflicts: isn't the bible above the law? Interviews with believers of both religions, with pastors and gang members, paint a picture of this new reality, which has a major influence on politics.
