Everything Must Fall plot

When South African universities increased their fees in 2015, an initially peaceful protest erupted at the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in Johannesburg. #feesmustfall became the slogan of a struggle to keep education affordable and to prevent the black, less wealthy population from dropping out of the education system. Even before the increase, there was already obvious poverty: a thousand mainly black students were dependent on the food bank every day. Some of those involved, including four prominent student leaders, talk about their role in the uprising, which deepened when the university administration, unable to stifle the protest, decided to call in a sizeable police force.
