Empleadas y Patrones plot
Behind the front doors of the expensive houses and apartments in Panama, where families and their domestic workers sometimes live together for years, hides a world of incomprehension and prejudice. Several women and girls tell how, as a young girl, they said goodbye to their rural life - and sometimes their own children - to work far from their homeland as nannies or domestic help. They talk about long hours, hard work, too little or no earnings, false accusations and even abuse. The employers, in turn, complain about the lack of skills or unreliability of their staff. Nevertheless, the women sometimes live in the house with a family for years. This is how close bonds are formed and sometimes there is affection, but in the end the gap between the social classes is rarely bridged.
