Elephants & Squirrels plot

In 2019, during her research in Swiss museums, Sri Lankan artist Deneth Piumakshi Veda Arachchige discovered a collection of ancestral remains and cultural objects from the Wanniyala-Aetto, an indigenous Sri Lankan community. These were brought to Basel in the early 20th century by Swiss explorers Paul and Fritz Sarasin. Together with Uru Warige Wannila Aththo, the leader of the Wanniyala-Aetto, Piumakshi Veda Arachchige is now working to ensure their return.
