Droom en Daad plot
In the period 1891-1927 Henriette Roland Holst went through a dramatic development. As a budding poet from a wealthy middle class background, she throws herself into the labor movement full of idealism and dedication. But within the various socialist parties a fierce battle of directions takes place, in which Henriette does not easily find her place. When she returns disappointed after a trip through the Soviet Union, she no longer feels at home with any left-wing party. Later she will look back on this time in her biography "The fire burned on". The film reconstructs this period on the basis of old film material, combined with texts by Henriette Roland Holst herself: fragments from letters, poems, speeches and books, sparingly supplemented by a personal commentary by the filmmaker.
