Dear Mandela plot
Mazwi, Zama and Mnikelo are residents of the settlements around the South African slum of Kennedy Road. It is one of many that will be evicted and destroyed by the government. However, as a result of the 'Slum Act', building new settlements is prohibited, leaving many residents homeless. The young student Mazwi, AIDS activist Zuma and shop assistant Mnikelo are active within the organization 'Abahlali baseMjondolo' (people of the huts), founded in 2005. They oppose the Slum Act, which they see as a new form of apartheid, and are going to court. The story takes a dramatic turn when gunmen invade Kennedy Road.
