De Weense Klokkenluider plot

Julian Hessenthaler set a trap for Austrian Vice-Chancellor Heinz-Christian Strache, leader of the right-wing populist FPÖ, in Ibiza in 2019. The video, showing Strache offering a "niece of a Russian oligarch" public amenities in return for favors, led to the fall of the Austrian government. 'Ibiza-gate', the unveiling of corruption unprecedented for a Western democracy, caused a political earthquake. It also cost Chancellor Sebastian Kurz his head. Three years later, the whistleblower, accused of drug trafficking, is in prison. Director Christine Pawlata sought him out.
