De Tunnel plot
Portrait of several people trying to survive in an abandoned railroad tunnel in New York. For four years, documentary maker Dree Andrea followed the ups and downs of six tunnel residents. The film confronts the viewer with their past, dreams and philosophies of life and sheds light on the harsh reality of an existence in an underground twilight world. In the period 1989-1993 a lot changes in the lives of the tunnel inhabitants. In 1991 the tunnel is put back into use. From that year on, the trains thundered through their living rooms with great regularity. For some residents this is a reason to start a new aboveground existence. Others find the raging violence hardly disturbing. In 1993 it was decided to close the tunnel for safety reasons. One of the residents manages to get a spare key and thus takes the job of doorman.
