De Schijn Tegen plot

When Reinier Smit comes home on a December night, his house turns out to be on fire. He does not hesitate, goes inside and saves his two children. He cannot find his wife. She is later found dead in the house and appears to have been murdered. Reinier becomes the main suspect of the rescue hero, but is acquitted due to lack of evidence. However, he is eventually sentenced to fifteen years. He maintains his innocence and seeks a new trial. The documentary reports on the 1996 request for review of this case.
