Starting with the disappointing second episode of Paul!l, the director follows Paul de Leeuw in an exciting year in which this explosive television man turns fifty and wants to find his audience again without selling himself short. It is a year of doubt, emotion and resurrection with new television plans, an autobiographical cookbook and the recordings for a new CD. Behind the scenes it becomes clear how the De Leeuw company works, who the man is behind the entertainer and how loneliness and euphoria follow each other. De Leeuw speaks openly about his ambivalence, his quest and how the theater and the television studio create different kinds of relationships with the public. At the intersection of entertainment and social engagement, De Leeuw seeks its own way.
