Dark Eden plot
Climate denial and the oil industry go hand in hand in Fort McMurray, a new city in Canada's rugged north. It is entirely dependent on the Athabasca Oil Sands for its income. From all over the world, workers flock to the remote city to work for high salaries. However, toxic substances in the air and drinking water cause a huge increase in cancer. In the form of a personal diary and interviews with the inhabitants, Jasmin Herold and Michael Beamish examine how the pragmatic inhabitants downplay or ignore the risks of their work. Until it's too late.
