Daguanying plot

Daguanying was an old neighborhood in Beijing, separated from the rest of the city by the Guangan Gate. Here the aristocrats of the city lived in beautiful classical houses. But now the district has disappeared, eaten by the urban expansion of the Chinese capital. In “Daguanying”, young filmmakers Tang Xiaoliang and Liu Juexin show how the last inhabitants are evicted from their homes. The high point in the film, the low point for the residents, is the meeting with the municipality, at which it is determined that the upcoming eviction is illegal. “Daguanying” documents not only the demise of old Beijing, but also the uncivilized sides of the new capitalism.
