The Liberace of lucha libre – Spanish for 'free wrestling' – is how Cassandro is regularly called. This Mexican show fighter has made his mark in the exóticos category, tough gender-bending wrestlers in glittery costumes. This 16mm portrait follows the sympathetic entertainer and top athlete through the twilight of his more than 26-year career. After numerous fractures, concussions and alcohol and drug abuse, his body begins to give up. The characteristic color palette of the analog camera fits seamlessly with Cassandro's life, his hysterical costumes, a house full of trinkets and the shabby streets of his childhood.
