Call It Sleep plot
American writer Henry Roth made his very successful debut at the age of 28 with the novel 'Call It Sleep', after which it took almost fifty years before he wrote a second book. The documentary looks for the reason for Roth's writer's block and visits the 89-year-old, critically ill writer in a suburb of Albuquerque in New Mexico, where he has been living withdrawn since the death of his wife. The conversations create the image of a man who felt uprooted all his life, after he had separated himself from his Jewish family and background.
