Buddha in Africa plot
At a Chinese boarding school in Malawi, African orphans receive strict Buddhist education. They learn kung fu, Mandarin and eat their corn porridge with chopsticks. Fifteen-year-old Enock, once the showpiece of the school as a kung fu talent, is torn between two worlds. He would like to return to the village where his grandmother and aunts live, but now he speaks Mandarin better than his own mother tongue. In all openness, he and his fellow students are filmed during school lessons, meals and Buddhist ceremonies, interspersed with interviews or conversations with supervisors.
