Since its spread throughout Europe in the 1960s, Tibetan Buddhism has been rocked several times by serious sexual and financial scandals. Ricardo Mendes went through hell in a Buddhist community in Castellane, France, far from the ideal of wisdom advocated by Belgian founder Robert Spatz. Physical abuse, starvation, incarceration and rape were the daily lot of unprotected children. The Tibetan Buddhist authorities, including the Dalai Lama, have been silent about these "ethical problems" for years.
