Beijing 2003 plot
Beijing 2003 is a film about the city where the artist lives and its inhabitants. A car with a camera drives through all the streets within the ring road of the gigantic Beijing. On October 18, 2003, the film crew started filming, starting at the busy Dabeiyao interchange. In the 16 days that followed, they drove the car through all the streets within Beijing's fourth ring road - not a single street was missed. About 2400 kilometers and 150 hours of filming later, the ride and thus the shooting ended where it began: at the Dabeiyao interchange. Through the windshield, the objective camera scans all the visual information out there - the spatial arrangement of the streets, the endless passage of time, landscapes, movements, activities and other scenes - and thoroughly and calmly captures the metropolis of Beijing with a single lens. The sum of the entire process is ultimately the meaning of the work.
