Aya Sofya Amsterdam plot

The Turkish mosque association Milli Görus has been working on the construction of the Westermoskee for twelve years. Meetings were held endlessly with the district council, the housing association and the interest group of local residents. When the then Minister of Justice, Piet Hein Donner, gives the official go-ahead for the opening in February 2006, everything seems to be in order. The construction of the imposing mosque, with a minaret that reaches up to 42 meters high, can begin.
