Under the responsibility of SS commander Albert Gemmeker, some 80,000 Jews, Roma and Sinti were deported in camp Westerbork to the Nazi concentration and extermination camps. Who was this man, who has always claimed that he did not know what fate awaited the deportees? He himself gave the departure signal for every train that left for the east.
