After the Apocalypse plot

"A nation afraid to give birth"

Between 1949 and 1989, the inhabitants of the former Soviet Republic of Kazakhstan were used as guinea pigs for nuclear weapons testing. In the region around Semipalatinsk, farmers still live with the consequences of this on a daily basis. One in twenty children is born with a defect. The head of the local maternity hospital therefore wants to limit the number of births based on genetic research, but young Bibigul nevertheless wants to give birth to her child.
