Absence plot
Every year, numerous inhabitants of the poor Indian countryside, especially young men, leave their villages to look for work in the major cities. Many disappear into the anonymity of city life, leaving their families in uncertainty about their fate. For those left behind, the lack is still very much present after years. Absence is a cinematic representation of the pain and sorrow of these cut-off lives, a feeling expressed in the Hindi word birha. In a remote village, the missing, the mothers and the weary lovers yearn to see beyond the fog. They meet in impenetrable silences and endless mourning. They curse the moon that witnesses their sleepless nights.
