Whirlpool plot
"His was a life of the past...theirs of the future!"
Showman Buck Rankin marries local Helen Morrison and plans to stay on the straight and narrow, but after a fight, he is sentenced to 20 years in prison for manslaughter. When pregnant Helen promises to wait for him, Rankin has the prison authorities send her a letter saying that he drowned while trying to escape. Twenty years later, Rankin is released and he changes his name to Duke Sheldon. He eventually becomes a nightclub owner and has ties to the mafia. Helen has since remarried to a local judge and her daughter Sandra has become a journalist. She is tasked with making a report on camera-shy Duke Sheldon…
