"Never Was Woman Placed in a more Pathetic Position-Forced to Choose Between the Good Name of Her Innocent Child and the Liberty of an Innocent Man."
Allayne Norman's husband, Bruce, is a drunkard and gambler. Eventually, she can no longer tolerate his behavior and goes to her artist cousin for help. Her husband follows her, demanding more money. The ensuing arguments culminate in Bruce killing his wife's cousin. Shortly afterward, a man with amnesia enters the studio. To avoid the consequences of his actions, Bruce stuffs his identification documents in the man's pockets and then flees the studio with Allayne and their son.
