The Connection plot

A daring robbery is committed in broad daylight in Manhattan, with valuable jewelry as the loot. Frank Devlin is an acclaimed newspaper columnist who was recently fired but still has to pay alimony. When he is approached by one of the bandits, Sy McGruder, to act as an intermediary for the crooks at the insurance company, Frank sees this as a good opportunity to get some money. Unfortunately, Frank bears the brunt of this dubious plan because McGruber doesn't keep his promise. He and his accountant and best friend Everett Hutchneker decide to arrest McGruber without involving the police.
