Silence plot
On the night before his execution, inmate Jim Warren is visited by journalist Joel Alva Clarke. Clarke offers him a pardon, which is granted to him by the governor, when he turns on those responsible for his crime. Clarke can then use Jim's story for his tabloid. Jim refuses to talk, however, until a priest gives him his last rites. Jim then tells the history of his death sentence. Twenty years earlier, Jim was a petty criminal and in love with Norma Davis, who becomes pregnant with him. When the journalist Phil Powers, who is also in love with Norma, learns of this, he offers to marry her, but she loves Jim, unaware that he is now in prison.
