A mafia son refuses to follow in his father's footsteps, but is hindered in his search for a normal job by his origin. In search of recognition, he is eventually forced to take a mafia 'job' from his father. What a low average for this film, quite unfair in my eyes.
This may be a small film but the effect is quite strong in my eyes.
The film certainly takes an original approach, both from how the money is tracked down to how that mafia family works and what it's like to be in the shoes of a mafia boss's son. In addition, the acting is very good, perhaps Diessel's best role in this and there are several strong scenes in it and the film looks away very quickly. What more could you want from a crime movie.

It's a great video, but it's a little underrated here.
Barry Pepper is a great actor, who usually has to make do with supporting roles, but luckily not here. I say happy, because he is simply doing very well. He convincingly portrays the son, who would rather not become a mafiosi. The rest of the cast also does well with the likes of John Malkovich and Dennis Hopper. Even Vin Diesel might have his best acting performance ever.
The film doesn't always have a fast pace and also contains a lot of dialogue. And often that dialogue is still quite fascinating, partly because each actor tries to make something of his character, which in itself succeeds well. The story is interesting and the character development is also interesting. The film also has quite a bit of subcutaneous tension and a fairly strong atmosphere. It's just a shame that at the end some things are handled rather quickly and easily and a grand finale is somewhat absent.
But otherwise it's all pretty good and definitely a must in the genre.
