Haha, what a strange movie this is. The film often looks ridiculous. They also think they're mixing dialogue with The Equalizer. And how many times did the N-word come up? Yeah, maybe this film was a hit in the 90s. Who knows.

A much-overlong remake of Akira Kurosawa's 1963 Japanese film Tengoku To Jigoku. The moral dilemma underlying the plot is interesting in itself, but the execution leaves much to be desired. Halfway through, the film suddenly tries to become a thriller, with meager results. Denzel Washington (with his odd teeth) is solid in the lead role, and Jeffrey Wright's presence never hurts, but apart from them, the acting is mediocre. And the omnipresent jazzy score is quite annoying.
