Almost a Gentleman plot

Dan Preston rushes out of his house and embarks on a nomadic life because his wife has left him. When he returns to his old home after some time, it turns out that someone else lives there. Shirley Haddon has since moved in. Dan is arrested because he is seen as a burglar. When he gets stuck, he gets to know a dog sentenced to death. He befriends the animal.
