On Ellis Island in New York, Hungarian immigrant Eva Petrie meets her uncle and subway train driver Frank Chase and his daughter Mamie. She will stay with them in the Bronx. Mamie gets Eva a job as a cook and waitress at Child's Restaurant on Fifth Avenue. Mamie then tries to interest Ellis in rich men, but in vain. One morning, however, Eva meets one James Stackpoole on the subway. James looks like a driver, but in reality he is a millionaire…
