The mix of master storyteller Roald Dahl and filmmaker Wes Anderson works very well. The film also has both styles. The visually recognizable sets and colors of Wes Anderson with the pleasantly lugubrious stories of Dahl. It is also made in such a way that it revolves around the 3 main characters and outside of Anderson's framework, you just have to think about it, you can easily tell this at the campfire. Anderson can also tackle my longer stories in the same way.

The last of the four videos I saw and also one of the weakest. It is that Fiennes portrays a wonderful character here that is still watchable, but in this film (just like 2 others of the 4) Anderson was unable to keep his attention. I simply didn't find the content interesting enough for that. 2.0*.

What an incredibly weak short this was. In advance I thought it was a very nice initiative from Netflix that they gave Anderson carte blanche to basically make whatever he wanted, but this initial enthusiasm has a very sour aftertaste. This was almost impossible to get through. I don't know if Wes Anderson is still completely in touch with what made his earlier and best films so fascinating and gripping. Richard Ayoade, who as the narrator, emotionlessly rattles off his lines; it didn't bother me at all. Who does this affect you in any way? I got nothing out of this, either emotionally or intellectually. Ralph Fiennes delivers an excellent weirdo, but that's basically where my positive points end. Fortunately it doesn't take long and you can get rid of it in no time, but the other short films immediately appeal to me a lot less. Combined with the extremely mediocre Asteroid City earlier this year, I'm starting to get the feeling that Anderson is starting to overplay his hand. 2*.
