Larry Cooper (Dan Dailey), a former sportsman, is now a peanut seller. Despite that, sports are still an obsession for him. His love for baseball has also spread to his son Christie (Billy Chapin). When his father is fired, Christie goes out and befriends a baseball club, not only to get his father back his job, but also to get a job on the baseball team himself.
