The First Year plot

Grace lives a happy life in a small town with her mother Emily and father Fred Livingston. Two men are interested in her: the solid but predictable Tommy Tucker and the more ambitious, smooth and worldly Dick Loring. Dick seems closer to Grace because of his desire for travel and adventure. However, she marries Tommy, but she insists that they live somewhere other than the city where they grew up. Tommy then leaves his successful insurance business and moves with Grace to Joplin, Missouri.
