The Exchange plot
The year is 1986. Tim is a teenager who lives in the Canadian town of Hobart, where the weather is murderous and the local population uncivilized. He is an outcast at school, has no friends, loves French New Wave movies and is proud of his intelligence. Looking for someone like-minded, Tim signs up to host an exchange student. The result is Stephane, who is not the sophisticated Frenchman Tim was hoping for. Stephane smokes, is obsessed with sex and quickly impresses the locals with his cheerful spirit and exotic manners. He becomes so popular that Tim becomes frustrated and feels more and more like an outsider.
