The Demi-Bride plot
Criquette has a crush on her stepmother's French lover. Her love for the man even goes as far as blackmailing him into marrying her. He initially feels insulted, but also falls in love with her. Everything seems to be going well, until his ex-girlfriend Lola suddenly steps into the picture.
