The Brass Check plot

Richard Trevor is thrown out of his parents' house for refusing to marry the woman chosen by his father, Silas Trevor, and finds himself without money or a way to earn a living. As a detective, he finds a receipt for a suitcase and follows it to a private psychiatric institution. There, he helps Henry Everett escape. Richard then helps Everett and his sister Edith cross the state line, but then returns to put the men who victimized Everett in their place.
