The Auction Block plot

Bob Wharton, the spendthrift son of a millionaire, marries beauty pageant winner Lory Knight. She regrets marrying a man who has never worked, leaves Bob, and heads home to Palmdale, South Carolina, where she is courted by Carter Lane. Bob arrives in town and starts working in a shoe store, making a big splash as a salesman. He is harassed by Bernice, Carter's sister, who compromises him. The Lane family vows that he must marry Bernice or die.
