In a survey, Henry Smith of Plainsville comes out as the ultimate 'average' American. The advertising agency behind this sees him as a suitable guinea pig for market research. They decide to cancel his prize and hire him under false pretenses. As expected, Henry's taste matches that of the masses. This goes well until he favors his own girlfriend in the upcoming 'All-American' beauty pageant. The lovebirds are kept apart and Henry's heartbreak leaves him making strange choices.
