Eddie Pink, a meek dry cleaner in the college town of Millwood, is sent to an assertiveness course. Eddie is quietly in love with nightclub singer Joyce Lennox. Before long, Eddie is hired by Hattie "Ma" Carson, the mother of his dorky friend Butch, to manage Dreamland. Dreamland is an amusement park that is threatened by Vance, the leader of a gang of slot machine scammers. Armed with his mentor's instructions, will Eddie be able to round up these crooks and see through the cunning Joyce Lennox?
