She Wrote the Book plot
"She wrote the years BLUSHING best-seller... then had to live it... page by burning page"
Jane Featherstone is a staid, almost pathologically repressed professor at a small university in the American Midwest. Jane is tricked into posing as Phyllis Fowler's girlfriend during a trip to New York. It seems that Phyllis, wife of university dean Dean Fowler, has written an exciting bestseller under a different name. Phyllis is believed to be going to her publisher's New York office to collect her royalty checks. However, Phyllis is too shy to appear herself at her publisher - who has never met her - and she has been able to convince Jane to replace her. But through a series of setbacks, culminating in a hard blow to her head, Jane is temporarily troubled by amnesia. Thanks to the publicist Jerry Marlowe, Jane believes that she really is the author of the book in question and that she herself lived the life described.
