Angela Gardner (Virginia Mayo) is known as an exotic dancer nicknamed 'Hot Garters Gertie'. When she meets her former teacher John Palmer (Ronald Reagan), she decides to go to university after all, where Palmer is now a professor. Angela helps the school by setting up a spectacular musical with the ailing drama and theater department. But then it turns out that someone has unearthed her past, which she would have liked to keep hidden.
