Scherzi da Prete plot
The story begins in the ancient town of Ciociara, sixty kilometers from Vatican City. The local baker, a fervent communist, is the mayor. The hamlet pastor is a fierce and foul-mouthed critic of the Vatican's gold-and-white complacency, impotent government and ubiquitous corruption. A woman of standing knows how to put the unsuspecting pastor at her side: she gets him to set up a new political party, the CD, which stands for Ciociara Democrats. But the poor priest gets it high in his head. He becomes arrogant and so he loses his supporters.
