Lulu Monahan is John Barrymore's press agent. Lulu tries to get a sponsor for a radio show. To achieve this goal, Lulu teams up with bandleader Kay Kyser's agent to develop a story about the great Shakespearean actor who, against his heartfelt objections, will teach Kay Kyser how to play Shakespeare. It soon becomes clear that this is not the same as playing Paducah.
