"Till your wish do us part"
During a family dinner, the patriarch Jan declares that he is tired of life. The news hits like a bomb and his daughter Iris decides to take leave. As the fixed date of his death draws nearer, Iris moves in with her father uninvited. She would like to know why he has come to this decision.

Jan [Johan Leysen] has invited his daughter Iris [Julia Akkermans], his son Ivan [Eelco Smits] and daughter-in-law Elisabeth [Anniek Pheifer] to his home to make an important announcement. He has decided to take his own life after celebrating his 75th birthday. Emotions run high that night, but some time later Ivan ostensibly resigns himself to his father's decision. However, Iris, who has no relationship or family, refuses to accept it. A daring basic fact that, however, has been developed in a disappointingly superficial and ultimately completely unbelievable way. Leysen is very good as the father, but Akkermans is let down by the unbalanced, rather rudderless scenario and a vague ending.

A movie that leaves me in two minds. In terms of theme, quite an intriguing subject when your elderly parent decides to plan his end himself. A message that hits like a bomb. The main problem of the film is then its execution. Lightheartedness takes precedence over drama or dilemma. It was soon all settled, although Iris struggled for a while.
The focus is then placed too much on Iris and less on the father or the relationship between father and daughter/children. Apart from all this, a great Johan Leysen again, always nice to see him again. Here and there also a funny maintained moment, such as when someone randomly called who was interested in the house.

Nice film in which an older man tells his adult children that he wants to die soon. The mix between comedy and drama doesn't always work well here, largely because of the subject matter. The tone is therefore a bit different, but this does result in some great moments. For 3.5 stars it sometimes drops a bit too much.
