'O Re plot

King Francesco II and his wife Maria Sofia are the last of the dynasty that ruled the Kingdom of Naples and both Sicilies. The story is set in 1860, when they were living as exiles in Rome under the protection of the Pope. The queen yearns for a child, but the king won't even touch her.
