The persistent rumor that Stanley Kubrick was approached by the CIA in 1969 to recreate the first moon landing in the studio is of course a nice and especially original idea for a comedy. The film starts off very funny, with a nice picture of the time and many successful visual finds. It's just a shame that the script and especially the characters don't have much substance. After about an hour, the film is already pretty much out of whack, after which the film drags on to the end. Everything then becomes increasingly bland and especially annoying, which ultimately makes the film a bit stuck in good intentions. Too bad, because the setup is strong and the design very successful.

I really enjoyed this absurd picture with a successful seventies look and very strange plot in which the American government is looking for a B-plan if the moon landing of 69 fails. You can immediately ask yourself the question whether the B-plan was not actually carried out today ...

At times hilarious moments combined with some brutal action. Perlman is excellent in his role as a murderous CIA agent, bordering on psychopathic, but also with a lot of doubt about an assignment he can barely get a grip on. But Rupert Grint is also great as a wimp. With director Renatus I thought I saw a lookalike in the Flemish actor Tom Audenaert, recently known from the Flemish horror comedy Yummie, but then it turned out to be him himself. Great role too!

The ending may have been over the top, but that doesn't detract from the successful setup of the film. Nice entertaining film where humor and some action go well together.

Rupert Grint hammers another nail into the coffin of his acting career with this bland action comedy. Grint plays band manager Jonny Thorpe, who in 1969 must stage the moon landing with the hippie band he’s in charge of at the behest of an intimidating Vietnam vet with PTSD [Ron Perlman] who thinks Jonny can get him Stanley Kubrick. A waste of time, money and what little talent is left. Watch Fly Me To The Moon instead.
