Make Your Own Bed plot

The couple Walter and Vivian Whirtle live in the countryside and it is difficult for them to keep servants employed for long periods of time. Walter hires private detective Jerry Curtis, who has been fired in the past for mistakenly arresting the District Attorney. The only way Walter can get Jerry to work for him is to tell him that his life is in danger, that his neighbor is trying to seduce his wife and that he suspects he is surrounded by Nazi spies. Jerry has his fiancée Susan Courtney work undercover as a cook for the Whirtles. To keep Jerry at work, Walter sends threatening letters to himself and hires actors to play Nazi spies. However, it soon becomes clear that Susan can't cook and that Jerry hasn't chosen the right actors as a spy.
